Editorial Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

At SoftWaterHQ, our goal is simple: give you accurate, useful and honest information so you can make the right choice for your home’s water. This page explains how we create and maintain our content.

Our standards

  • Accuracy first: we base our guides on reputable sources, including the EPA, USGS, WHO, the CDC, NSF/ANSI certification standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Plain English: we explain technical topics like grains per gallon, TDS and NSF certifications without jargon.
  • Honesty: we share both pros and cons, and we tell you when a cheaper or simpler option will do the job.
  • Transparency: we cite our sources and clearly label any sponsored content or advertising.

How we choose products

When comparing water softeners and filters, we look at factors such as independent certifications (for example, NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58 and 44), capacity and sizing, build quality, warranty, ongoing costs like salt and filter replacements, ease of installation, and real owner feedback. We do not accept payment to include or rank a product.

Hands-on testing

Unless an article clearly says we tested a product ourselves, our reviews and comparisons are based on research: specifications, certifications, manufacturer documentation and owner reviews. We will always be clear about which is which.

Keeping content up to date

Products, prices and guidance change. We review our articles regularly and update them when we find new information, and each article shows when it was last updated.
