Water Hardness by City

How hard is the water in your city? These guides show the tap water hardness for major U.S. cities, based on utility-reported data, along with where the water comes from, nearby cities and the right water softener settings.

Hardness is measured in milligrams per liter (mg/L) or grains per gallon (GPG). Water above 7 GPG (120 mg/L) is hard, and above 10.5 GPG (180 mg/L) is very hard.
